Trailers: Horror Film Edition!

Hey guys! Today I have two new trailers for horror films. The first is a very creepy trailer for a film written by the great visionary director Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth) and starring Katie Holmes. This one is called Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.

Next, we have a trailer for the remake of the highly controversial 1978 film Day of the Woman. This one seems to be extremely gory, and personally kind of reminds me of a messed-up version of Home Alone. This one is called I Spit on Your Grave.

So, do any of these interest you?

  1. I am not a big fan of the horror genre, but I know that one of your major projects focused on it. SInce you did not keep blogging during the summer you don't have any articles on either Toy Story 3 or Inception. Toy Story 3 had a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes last time I checked and Inception is ranked 3 in the IMDB Top 250, though I feel that is a little high and will come down with time. What did you think of these movies?

  2. "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark" looks pretty average in terms of contemporary horror movies. I do love that the first 50 seconds of the trailer is just a black screen. "I Spit on Your Grave" looks intense but the story seems kind of cool. Horror movies really aren't for me, but these look pretty good if that is what you are into.

  3. Yeah I try to keep the blog filled with recent news, but you can check my opinions on those two movies on my mid year report part 1, which has been pushed off the main page due to too many posts, but you can find it if you click the older posts button on the bottom of the page (I am trying to find out how to have more posts appear on the front, so I may have that fixed soon.)

In regards to Toy Story 3's 99% rating, I feel like that's less due to it being an incredible movie, and more due to it being a movie that would be hard to seriously write a negative review on. I thought the movie was very good, but a bit of a drop from Pixar's last 3 films.

I really enjoyed Inception, but you can rarely take teh IMDb top 250 seriously. Any movie that can get the "fanboy" types to go crazy, they will all go on there and vote 10 out of 10 due to pure excitement. I think Kick-Ass made an appearance upon its release, and I thought that movie was rather average at best.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark looks like it has real potential, I found myself genuinely creeped out at times during the trailer, which is rare. I Spit on Your Grave looks like it will be pure entertainment, not much more.
